COCHRAN, Ga. – The Loyola Wolf Pack women's basketball team dominated from start to finish on Saturday, handling Middle Georgia State, 70-47, on the road for a Southern States Athletic Conference win. The Pack (12-8, 6-3 in SSAC) is back in action on Monday, traveling to Brewton-Parker for a 11 a.m. CST tip in a matchup originally scheduled for this past Thursday.
The domination started in the first quarter when Loyola outscored the Knights 21-5 in the first 10 minutes. Alissa O'Dell and Deniya Thornton both led the team with five points each, as the Pack had six total scorers (Alexis Babineaux, MG Lymon, Caitlin Travis and Kate Thompson).
While Loyola's shooting percentage dipped a little in the second quarter, its defense remained strong to help build a 35-13 lead at the break. Thornton added six more points to bring her first-half total to 11, and Bria McClure, Addison Luker and Joclyen Wyatt made it nine different scores in the game. Defensively, Loyola notched six more steals while holding MGA to 2-of-11 shooting.
O'Dell got to double figures in the third quarter and Thornton recorded five more steals in the second half to log a rare points-rebounds-steals triple-double to highlight the day. Libby Thompson and Skye Pepp also found the bottom of the net in the second half to help the team finish with 11 different scorers.
