NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola University New Orleans women's basketball team returned to The Den on Thursday for the first time in 2025, turning in a dominant effort to defeat Point University, 70-55. The win marked the third straight Southern States Athletic Conference victory, as the Wolf Pack improved their overall record to 11-7 and conference mark to 5-2.
The Pack is back in The Den on Saturday for another league matchup, hosting Faulkner for a 12 p.m. contest.
MG Lymon, Alissa O'Dell and Caitlin Travis all got to the free throw line early, combining to go 4-for-4 from the line with old-fashioned 3-point conversions from O'Dell and Travis, 8-3. O'Dell added a put-back score, 10-3, but the Skyhawks scored a couple in a row after that. The sophomore from Zachary, Louisiana, added two more scores to give Loyola a 16-12 lead after the first 10 minutes of play.
Loyola kept feeding O'Dell in the second quarter, as she scored the team's first two field goals to collect 13 of the Wolf Pack's 20 points, 20-12. Deniya Thornton and Libby Thompson scored their first points from the field, then Joclyen Wyatt got on the board with two made free throws, 26-18, at the five-minute mark of the frame. To begin the final five minutes of the half, Lymon added two points to the scoring total, then assisted Thornton to keep the Loyola lead at eight, 30-22. Travis scored another bucket with Kate Thompson scoring to get on the board, 34-28. After a Lymon steal, O'Dell hit a buzzer-beater to put Loyola ahead eight heading into the locker room up 36-28.
The two teams played an even first five minutes of the second half, with Travis, Thornton and Wyatt all scoring once to push Loyola's advantage by two, 43-33. Lymon picked up her eighth assist on Loyola's next possession, then hit a 3-pointer on the next trip down the floor, 48-33, to extend its lead even more. Point was ice cold after that, shooting just 2-for-14 in the frame to allow the Pack to sprint out to a 56-35 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Libby Thompson finished off the frame with a 3 to help outscore the Skyhawks 20-7.
Alexis Babineaux got in on the scoring to begin the fourth, and Lymon kept it a 20-point lead, 60-40, after two and a half minutes of play. Babineaux added another basket, then Thornton scored her ninth point on an assist from Addison Luker to keep Loyola's lead in the 20s, 64-44. With two minutes left, Isabella April became the Pack's ninth scorer with an assist from Skye Pepp. From there, Loyola stayed far ahead for good to give Loyola its first home victory of the calendar year, 70-55
