NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola Wolf Pack volleyball team returned to The Den on Saturday for another Southern States Athletic Conference match, falling to the Mobile Rams in three sets. Loyola is back in action on Saturday, Sept. 28, hosting a tri-match with William Carey and Louisiana Christian in The Den. First, the Wolf Pack will play WCU at 11 a.m., then they'll play LCU at 3 p.m. after those two play each other at 1 p.m.
Â
The Wolf Pack went kill-for-kill with the Rams in the early going of the match, tying the score at 3-3 with back-to-back kills from Preslie Boswell. Mobile, however, managed to mount a scoring run, maintaining a lead through the following points of the set. After Mobile led by as many as ten, 22-12, Loyola had a run of its own, scoring eight of the next nine points, putting the score at 24-21 in favor of the Rams. During that run, Natalie Burkholder and Amaya Bazemore found the floor, with Boswell adding three more kills. Before Wolf Pack could tie the match up, the Rams managed to score the final point to secure the set.
Â
In the second set, the Rams carried over their momentum from the first set. After the Rams took a six-point lead, 9-3, the Wolf Pack closed the scoring gap with a 6-1 run. Aces from Bazemore and Belén Puche Laguna, along with a kill from Samantha Guillotte got the Pack within one, 10-9. From that point, the Rams found their footing, going up 2-0 heading into the third set.
Â
After Mobile took a third-set lead, 2-1, a Juliana Pacini kill, a Juliet Petruzelli ace, and another Boswell kill put the Pack in front, 5-3. With the set tied up at 9-9, the Rams found a lead shortly after. The Wolf Pack, however, kept the score close, tying the set at 20 all. During that stretch, Alexa Palmer, Gabriella Masiello, and Clarissa Dupree got in on the action, each notching kills. The Rams pulled away in the final points, taking the match.
Â
"We knew today would be a tough battle, and we had a lot of opportunities to prove ourselves and just let them slip through our fingers. Preslie had another great match and Simone & Juliet really stepped it up at the service line. We just need to keep piecing those good moments together. Since the start of this season, we have been challenged in so many ways, and we just need to stay the course and keep looking for the adjustments and improving little by little. Next Saturday will have a lot of volleyball, so I hope to see another great crowd in The Den."
