Faulkner takes Game 1 over Pack

MONTGOMERY, ALA. – The Faulkner Eagles took an early lead and never relinquished it, defeating the Loyola Wolf Pack, 11-4, in Game 1 of their weekend Southern States Athletic Conference series. Loyola (15-4, 6-4 in SSAC) and Faulkner (16-5, 8-2) will meet back up on Sunday for a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
 

The Eagles scored two runs in the first inning, three in the fourth and two more in the fifth to jump out to a 7-0 lead over Loyola. The Wolf Pack started to chip into the score in the seventh, though, scoring three runs to make it a 7-4 score. 
 

Jed Cambre and Prescott Marsh started the frame with a single and a walk during the first two at-bats, then Landon Trosclair doubled down the left field line to score Loyola's first run, 7-1, and put two runners in scoring position. After a strikeout, Jake Mills brought home another run on a sacrifice fly, plating Marsh put putting two outs on the board. Brandon Mooney and Jaxon Buratt walked during consecutive at-bats to load the bases, as Trosclair eventually scored on a wild pitch, 7-3. Another strikeout would end the inning, though. 
 

Faulkner got all of those runs back and more in the next half inning, scoring four runs to go back ahead, 11-3. Loyola was able to scratch one more across before the game ended, this time in the ninth. Trosclair walked to start the inning and he later came around to score on an error by the Eagles' infield, 11-4. 
 

Pack Facts

• Marcus Steen extended his hitting streak to 11 games, which leads the team.

• Brandon Mooney also extended his hitting streak, as he now has 10 consecutive games with a hit. 

• Jed Cambre notched his seventh multi-hit game of the season, going 2-for-4 with a run scored. 

• Landon Trosclair hit his second double of the year, which drove in a run. He also drew a walk and scored two runs.
