Wolf Pack completes sweep of Stillman

The Loyola baseball team is now 10-5 in Southern States Athletic Conference play after earning three wins over the Tigers this weekend

TUSCALOOSA, ALA. – The Loyola University New Orleans baseball team is coming back home with three Southern States Athletic Conference wins, completing the sweep of Stillman College with a 15-1 run-rule series finale victory on Sunday.

Loyola (21-8, 10-5) will begin a 10-game homestand with five games this week at Segnette Field. First, it'll host the University of the Southwest (N.M) on Tuesday for a doubleheader before welcoming Middle Georgia State for another league series starting on Friday.

The Wolf Pack scored all of their 15 runs in the first six innings to set up the run rule, and it started with one run in the first inning. Jaxon Buratt reached on a fielder's choice, then a passed ball, two hit batters and a wild pitch brought the freshman home, 1-0. The first of three four-run innings took place in the second inning. Brandon Mooney picked up an RBI in that frame, scoring Aaron Daivs, 2-0, and Collin Zeringue had a two-RBI double two at-bats later, 4-0. A bases-loaded walk for Kason Cullins scored Zeringue to give Loyola a 5-0 lead after two.

After Nathan Monceaux walked with the bases in the third, 6-0, Loyola scored four more runs in the fourth inning to open the game up even more. Jake Mills reached on an infield error with Cullins scoring from third, 7-1, and another RBI single for Mooney brought home Davis, 8-1. Another bases-loaded walk for Monceaux scored Mills, 9-1, and another wild pitch scored Mooney, 10-1.

Buratt brought home two runs with a single in the fifth inning, as an error helped both Mooney and Davis score, 12-1, then he came home on a wild pitch during the next at-bat, 13-1. Another passed ball scored pinch-runner Grant Goodbee, who's typically a bullpen arm for the team, and another relief pitcher, Joshua Orr, scored in the sixth after he walked to bring the game to its final score, 15-1.

Prescott Marsh started the game on the bump and he allowed the lone run on four hits with a couple of strikeouts in three innings. Garrett Beadle got the win with two innings of relief work, as he allowed just one hit, and Carter Holstein wrapped things up with a one-hit, two-inning performance as well.
