LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The 15th-ranked Loyola Wolf Pack baseball team had a tough day on Sunday, losing two games to Talladega College and No. 2 Georgia Gwinnett to close the weekend. Loyola (17-8) did earn a win over GGC on Saturday to salvage the weekend, and it'll return to Segnette Field on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. matchup against Dillard.Â
Â
Game 1: Talladega 5, #15 Loyola 4 (7)
Loyola got on the board first with a pair of runs in the top of the opening inning. Brandon Mooney picked up where he left off from the day before, singling to start the game and advancing to third quickly. He scored on groundout by Jed Cambre, and Jaxon Buratt, who got hit during the second at-bat of the game, made it 2-0 when he scored off a single by Marcus Steen.
Â
The Tornadoes tied it, 2-2, with two runs in the third, then they took a 5-2 lead after scoring one run in the fourth and two more in the sixth. The Pack mounted a rally in the seventh and final inning, as Collin Zeringue got a single with one out. Prescott Marsh put two in scoring position with a double down the left field line, then a Landon Trosclair triple scored the two runs to cut it to 5-4. The tying run never made it home, though.Â

Game 2: #2 Georgia Gwinnett 18, #15 Loyola 1 (7)
The Grizzlies jumped out to a big lead, 13-0, with five runs in the first inning and eight more in the second. GGC added another run in the third before Loyola could push one across in the top of the fourth. Steen doubled with two outs and moved to third base on a single by Aaron Davis, then a double steal brought home the lead runner.Â
Â
Georgia Gwinnett, however, scored three runs in the fourth and another in the sixth to put the game away.Â
