No. 15 Loyola rolls past Point

The Wolf Pack women’s basketball won their 12th straight game on Thursday, taking down the Skyhawks in league action

NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola University New Orleans women's basketball team continues to roll through Southern States Athletics Conference play, defeating Point University by 49 points, 93-44, in The Den on Thursday. The win marked the 12th straight win for the Wolf Pack (15-1), and they moved their perfect SSAC record to 9-0.

No. 15 Loyola will next host Thomas University on Saturday for a 12 p.m. tip-off. The game will be a part of Loyola's Wolf Pack Athletics Hall of Fame festivities, as the women's basketball program will have two inductees celebrated - Jasmine Brewer and the 2017-18 team.

Loyola's defense played a huge factor in the beginning of the game, forcing Point to commit five turnovers while shooting 5-of-15 from the field in the first quarter. Offensively, Alissa O'Dell and Lizzy Ratcliff scored the Pack's first four points, and MG Lymon hit a 3-pointer to quickly give Loyola an 8-2 lead four minutes into the game. O'Dell scored four more points and Taylor Thomas and Sydni Tangle both made a couple of free throws to build a 17-6 advantage. Then a long jumper and a 3 by Cannady pushed it to 22-9 with a minute left. O'Dell finished off the scoring to make it a 24-12 game entering the second quarter.

The Skyhawks started the next quarter well, scoring seven of the game's next nine points to cut it to seven, 26-19, but a 3-pointer by Thomas near the halfway mark extended the lead back out to 10. Bria McClure got in on the action with a 3-pointer, as well as Libby Thompson cleaning up the offensive glass with a put-back, 37-22. The two teams traded a couple of baskets to bring the game to its halftime score, 39-27.

The Wolf Pack dominated on both ends of the floor in the third quarter, scoring 23 points and holding the Skyhawks to eight. Lymon and Morgan Hervey got some action in the third frame, scoring a combined seven points. With 3:41 left in the third quarter, the Wolf Pack began a 26-0 run that ended with four minutes left in the game. Jada Washington also played in the final frame, scoring five points in six minutes of action.

Only allowing nine points in the fourth quarter, Loyola outscored Point 54-17 in the second half. Libby Thomspon led Loyola in the fourth quarter, scoring 12 points, and ending the game with a triple to help the Pack get the conference win at home.
