NEW ORLEANS – Following their first victory of the season, the Loyola Smash Bros. Premiere team entered its third match of the season, competing against Florida Tech. Coming into the match, the Florida Tech Crimson team had a 1-1 record, defeating Loyola's previous opponent, Columbia College in the first week of competition. In Thursday's match, the Wolf Pack took down Florida Tech in a 2-1 contest.

In the next match, the Wolf Pack will take on Ringling College on Thursday, Sept. 28, at 6 p.m. The match will be live streamed at https://www.youtube.com/@loynoesports.

In the first crew battle of the night, Makari Jackson got the start for the Wolf Pack. Facing Florida Tech's Wolf, Jackson's Terry found a way to win, defeating FIT's first fighter, 3-2. With one stock remaining, Jackson took on Ike. Florida Tech's Ike won the second fight of the match, taking down Jackson, 1-0.

Making his season debut for the Pack, Anthony Nodolski entered the fight against Ike. As Olimar, Nodolski had to use his range against Ike's heavy-hitting sword. Ike's aggression and sword proved to be difficult for the lightweight Olimar. However, Loyola's second-year player overcame a one-stock lead to defeat Ike, 3-2. With a single stock left, Nodolski did his best against FIT's third fighter in Pyra/Mythra, trading stocks, 1-1.

Samuel Spiegal was the Pack's next fighter to face Pyra/Mythra, one of Smash Ultimate's top fighters. However, the aggression of Florida Tech's fighter was difficult to match as Pyra defeated Roy, 3-0. After a career game for Nathan Long in last week's match, Long returned to face Xenoblade's duo. Rosalina & Luma eliminated Pyra with one stock left. To finish the first crew battle, Long faced FIT's Samus. Florida Tech's Samus took Long's last stock, taking the first set.

With a change-up of the order, the Pack started Samuel Spiegal the second crew battle. Against Ike, Spiegal's Roy was a much better matchup, taking a 3-1 victory. Florida Tech's Pyra/Mythra made a return to the match, taking down Roy, 2-0. Nathan Long made his appearance in the second set to take down Pyra/Mythra. A victory from Long's Rosalina & Luma pivoted the direction of the match in Loyola's favor, winning 3-2. Facing Samus once again, Long did some damage to FIT's fighter, trading stocks, 1-1.

Anthony Nodolski made an appearance in the second set, fighting Samus. With a stock advantage, Nodolski's Olimar eliminated Samus, 2-2. With a single stock left, Nodolski faced Florida Tech's final fighter in Wolf. Olimar chipped away at Wolf, taking two stocks before falling, 1-2. Makari Jackson finished Wolf's last stock, tying the match up, 1-1.

In the final crew battle, Nathan Long got things going against Pyra/Mythra. In a very close fight, Long came up with the victory, eliminating Florida Tech's anchor, 3-2. Following that up, Long took on Samus, managing to take a stock from Metroid's main character, 1-1.

Nodolski came back in the third set to face Samus. Once again, Olimar took the victory over Samus, 2-1. Florida Tech brought out Ness as their third fighter. Even at a disadvantage, Nodolski made things difficult for Ness, falling 2-2. Samuel Spiegal's Roy returned to the fight to take down Ness, 1-0. Florida Tech's last chance for victory was Lucina. Winning 3-2, Spiegal completed the comeback for Loyola for a three-set victory over Florida Tech.
