Wolf Pack Overwatch competes in playoffs

NEW ORLEANS – After their playoff victory over George Fox University, Loyola took on Cornell College in the second round of the playoffs. In the last matchup between the two teams, CC came away with the victory. With a regular-season record of 6-1, the No. 11 seed Cornell was a tough matchup for the No. 30 seed Pack. On Tuesday, the Pack fell to Cornell in a three-set match.

On Thursday, April 13, the Loyola Smash Bros. team will compete in the playoffs against Wichita State. The postseason match will be live-streamed at 7:30 p.m. on https://twitch.tv/loynoesports. 

The teams began the contest on Nepal, playing in a best-of-three mode. Cornell began the match with a 23-percent lead, but the Pack took control of the objective. Loyola held the point to 42 percent before Cornell took it back. The Rams kept control until the end, taking the first round, 1-0. The second round was much closer with the Wolf Pack getting to 99 percent, but Cornell managed to take the round, winning the first set.

King's Row was the next map played, with the Pack starting on the attacker's side. Led by Jaiden Lee's Winston, Loyola took the objective with 2:29 left on the clock. With help from Stirling Downes and Roger Bouche, the Pack continued their run. An ultimate from Gerardo Colon's Soldier: 76 clinched the first checkpoint for the Pack. As the clock ran into the final seconds, Dashiell Hazzard did his best to keep the round going, but Cornell held strong, keeping the Pack to two points. Cornell continued their dominance on the attacker's side, passing the Pack's best effort, and winning the second set. 

Loyola began on the attacker's side for the third set on Dorado. The Pack passed the first checkpoint, but Cornell held them behind the second checkpoint, keeping the score 1-0. Cornell continued to be strong on the attack, taking the win after bringing the payload past the Pack.
