Wolf Pack Overwatch sweeps Colorado College

Loyola took their second sweep of the spring season on Tuesday

2/28/2023 9:20:00 PM

NEW ORLEANS – After their bye week, the Pack looked to get back in the win column against Colorado College. With their victory, Loyola moved up in the West-Central Conference standings, tying Cornell College for second in the conference at a 2-1 record.

The Pack will be back next week, facing the Irvine Valley College Lasers on Tuesday, March 7th at 7:30 p.m. As always, the match will be live streamed at https://twitch.tv/loynoesports.

The teams began the first set on the Control map, Nepal. Colorado College started hot, taking a 75% lead on the objective. However, a triple kill by Gerardo Colon's Tracer flipped the match. The Pack managed to keep their control until it got to 66%. Then, the CC Tigers took back control of the objective.

At 99%, Colorado College could not finish the round, and Jaiden Lee's D. Va made plays to take back the objective. From that point, Loyola closed out the first round with a victory. In the second round, Loyola kept the ball rolling, possessing control of the objective from start to finish, winning 100-0 and taking the first set.

With the first set going to Loyola, they began King's Row on the attacker's side. Within a minute, the Pack had already started moving the payload. When Loyola neared the first checkpoint, Colorado College's Zarya used her ultimate to stifle the Wolf Pack push, but a clutch ultimate from Zachary Sutherland shut down any chance of that. Not long after, the Pack reached the finish, taking a 3-0 lead with 4:12 remaining. Switching sides, the Pack needed a stop to take the second set. Colorado College used the second round to fight back, reaching the end of the map, and tying the set at 3-3. Entering the third round, the Pack had four more minutes than their opponents. Since Colorado College stayed on the attacker's side, they made the most of the minute they had and took a 4-3 lead. Loyola quickly ended any hopes of a Tiger victory and took the second set with a triple kill from Jaiden Lee.

In the third set, the teams traveled to Circuit Royal, the Payload map. Starting on the attack, the Wolf Pack kept their streak going, taking a 3-0 lead with strong efforts from Roger Bouche and Dashiell Hazzard. With one stop from victory, the Pack had the chance to take the sweep. Backed into a corner, the CC Tigers would not let Loyola win easily. They made a strong push, getting the payload a short 1.57 meters from tying the game. With the clock into overtime, the Pack kept the Tigers away from the payload. Jaiden Lee's Wrecking Ball swung the opponents off of the payload, just enough for Hazzard and Colon to take out the last enemies. As overtime ended, the Pack claimed their second sweep of the season, 3-0.
