BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – The Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team saw its 10-match winning streak come to an end on Friday, dropping a league contest to Blue Mountain Christian in three sets (25-23, 27-25, 25-12). The Wolf Pack (21-5, 11-2 in SSAC) is back in action against UT Southern on Saturday. The first serve of that Southern States Athletic Conference matchup is set for 2 p.m.
The Wolf Pack began the first set with Juliana Pacini getting an ace to take a 3-1 lead. The Toppers began to take a lead over the Pack with four straight points to make the score, 6-4. Then, a 7-1 run by Loyola that included kills by Pacini, Emily Sheperis and an Amaya Bazemore-Preslie Boswell block to take a three-point lead at 11-8. The momentum shifted multiple times in the first set with both Blue Mountain and Loyola making runs. Down 20-17, the Wolf Pack fought to tie the match at 22-all. However, the Toppers found a way to take the first set, 25-23.
Loyola started the second set with a 5-2 lead with from Boswell, Alexa Palmer, and Simone Tyson. The second set went much the same with the Wolf Pack and the Toppers trading runs. With the score at 11-9, in favor of Blue Mountain, the Wolf Pack scored five straight points with help from Sheperis and Bazemore to take a 14-11 lead. After a timeout, the Toppers responded with four points of their own. As the second set reached towards its end, Loyola and Blue Mountain exchanged points to tie the game three times. With the set tied at 25-25 by a kill from Amaya Bazemore, the Toppers scored the next two points to take a 27-25 second set.
Blue Mountain carried the second-set momentum into the third set, taking a 25-12 victory to win the match.
