COCHRAN, Ga. – The 22nd-ranked Loyola Wolf Pack men's basketball team won their 16th overall game of the season and 11th in Southern States Athletic Conference play on Saturday, defeating Middle Georgia on the road, 77-50.
Loyola (16-3, 11-1 in SSAC) will next travel to William Carey on Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. first tip.
Middle Georgia started the game with a 6-0 lead through the first two minutes, but after that, it was mostly the Wolf Pack that had control of the first half. Jalen Galloway scored Loyola's first seven points to take its first lead of the game, 7-6, then Cameron Williams and Bradley Alcime put the Pack ahead 11-9 eight minutes into the contest. A Michael Harden triple and another score by Alcime flip-flopped the lead twice, 16-15, but Loyola wouldn't relinquish the lead for the rest of the game after that.
Williams hit a 3-pointer and Alex Hammond and Zach Muller each scored four points to move the score to 27-20 with four minutes left until halftime, and Hammond and Muller each scored again to bring the score to 31-24 at halftime.
Galloway and Muller combined for the first six Loyola points to make the lead 12, 37-25, a few minutes into the second half. Harden converted an old-fashioned 3-point play and scored again for five more quick points, 42-26, and the Pack really opened things up with two 3 from Leonard Jackson and Milan Mejia, 50-32, a couple of minutes later. By the 11-minute mark, Loyola had a 20-plus-point lead, 55-32, after Williams nailed another 3.
Alcime, Jackson and Hammond kept things rolling for Loyola, 64-38, with less than seven minutes on the clock. From there, Dominic Brown, Luke Ladner and Andrew Stagni got their first points, as 11 different players contributed for Loyola in the blowout win.
