Box Score The Wolf Pack baseball team finished off a three-game sweep of No. 21 Middle Georgia State on Saturday with a 10-0 shutout
WESTWEGO – The Loyola Wolf Pack brought the brooms to Segnette Field on Saturday, finishing off a three-game Southern States Athletic Conference sweep of the No. 21 Middle Georgia State Knights, 10-0, in eight innings.
Loyola, which is riding a four-game winning streak, is now 22-16 overall and 9-6 in SSAC play. The team is next set to play LSU Alexandria on the road Tuesday, April 12, at 4 p.m.
After seeing its first five batters retired to start the game, Loyola scratched across its first run in the second inning with two outs. Tucker Ganley reached first on an infield error, and that was followed up by a double to left from Christopher Bohrer to make it a 1-0 Wolf Pack lead. The MGA left fielder originally lost the ball in the sky and he never could get in position to catch the fly ball.
The Pack pushed two runs across in the next inning, as Kason Cullins and Payton Alexander got things going with back-to-back one-out singles. With runners on first and second, Allen Dennis sent a hard hit ball to center, and the runners held their positions for the catchable ball. The MGA centerfielder couldn't make the catch, however, as Cullins scored to give Loyola a 2-0 lead and Alexander and Dennis moved into scoring position thanks to a throwing error by the Knights' second baseman. Ganley hit into a groundout two at-bats later to push the advantage to 3-0.
The Wolf Pack kept it going in the next inning, plating four more runs to extend the score to 7-0. Bohrer led off the frame with a solo homer, then after two outs were recorded, Cullins and Alexander, again, hit consecutive singles to make it 5-0. With Alexander at third and Dennis, who walked, on second, Luke Clement doubled down the right-field line to bring it to a seven-run lead for Loyola.
The Pack put the finishing touches on the run-rule win with a run in the sixth and two in the eighth. Dennis picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly in the sixth, then the New Orleans native hit a two-run home run in the eighth to end the game early.
Jake Mills made his second career start for the Wolf Pack, which came four days after starting and throwing one inning against Spring Hill, and he gave up just two hits during his three innings of work to earn the win. Brett Fisackerly took in the fourth and picked up where Mills left off, putting zeros on the scoreboard in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Brady Bowen and Wes Anderson finished the last 2.1 innings, both putting more zeros on the board.
