Wolf Pack continues win streak Tuesday

Box Score

The Loyola baseball team has now won eight of the last nine games after Tuesday's win over Xavier

WESTWEGO – The Loyola Wolf Pack baseball team made it four wins in a row on Tuesday after defeating Xavier 16-2 in seven innings at Segnette Field. The Wolf Pack saw their first four-game winning streak of the season snapped last Tuesday, so now they've claimed eight wins in the last nine games to improve their record to 26-17 overall.

The game was originally scheduled to be played at Wesley Barrow Stadium, but the game was moved to Segentte Field and remained a Xavier home game.

Second-place Loyola (12-6) is now set to host Southern States Athletic Conference foe Talladega College this weekend, first playing the Tornadoes at noon on Friday at John Ryan Stadium before a doubleheader on Saturday at Mike Miley Field beginning at noon.

The Pack got the scoring started with a single run in the second inning. Christopher Bohrer led off by getting on base via an infield error, and a single by Jake Mills put runners on the corners with one out. A double steal brought the first run home, 1-0.

The big blow from the Loyola offense came in the next frame, scoring six runs off four hits and two errors to take a 7-0 lead. Allen Dennis walked and Luke Clement singled to start the rally, then Bohrer reached base on another error to bring home the first run of the inning, 2-0. A single by Garrett Beadle loaded the bases during the next at-bat, and that was followed up by a two-RBI single by Mills and another double-steal play made it a 5-0 lead. Mills scored on a passed ball and Gabriel Trastoy hit a solo home run during the next at-bat to extend the score to 7-0.

Xavier made it a 7-2 game during the next half-inning, but Loyola scored three more runs in the next three innings to bring the run-rule into effect. In the fourth inning, Dennis, again, started things with a walk, Clement doubled and Bohrer walked to load the bases with no outs. During Beadle's at-bat, a balk and a two-RBI single by the freshman pushed the lead to 10-2. Three straight walks and a three-RBI double by Bohrer made it a 13-2 game in the fifth, and a two-run home run by Aaron Davis before an RBI walk by Bohrer brought the game to its final, 16-2 in the sixth.

Brady Bowen earned the win in his start, pitching five innings while allowing two earned runs on six hits. He also struck out seven while walking just one to earn his second win of the season.
