Box Score Loyola's four-game winning streak was snapped on Tuesday, falling to the Generals in a non-conference matchup
WESTWEGO – The Loyola Wolf Pack baseball saw their four-game winning streak snap on Tuesday to LSU Alexandria, dropping the midweek non-conference matchup with the Generals 5-2 at Segnette Field. The loss moves the Pack to 22-17 overall and they'll take their 9-6 Southern States Athletic Conference mark on the road to Stillman College this weekend.
The series with the Tigers (8-25, 1-17) is currently slated for a Thursday-Friday schedule, with both days starting at 1 p.m. and a doubleheader set for Thursday.
LSUA got on the board first with a pair of runs in the first inning, but the Wolf Pack tied the game at 2-all in the next inning. Luke Clement got on base first with a leadoff single to right field, then a fielder's choice and an error by the LSUA second baseman put two runners in scoring position with no outs. A Garrett Beadle ground out scored the first run, and Tucker Ganley made it a 2-2 game with a single to right.
The Generals regained the lead with a single run in the fourth, 3-2, then they added lone runs in the sixth and eighth innings to take a 5-2 advantage late in the ballgame.
The story of the game for the Wolf Pack was their missed opportunities at the plate. They stranded eight total baserunners in the game, and the toughest pill to swallow was having the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the eighth and getting nothing out of it. Loyola hit into a 5-3 double play to end that frame. Loyola also left two on base in the third inning after a couple got on board with two outs, and they stranded lone baserunners in the second, fourth, seventh and ninth innings as well.
Loyola had eight pitchers take the mound, which has been typical in midweek games this season, and Wes Anderson shined the brightest with his clean seventh inning. He faced just three batters and struck out two of them while not allowing any baserunners. Matthew Weil also pitched well in the second and third innings, not giving up any hits with three strikeouts and a walk to face one over the minimum.
