Box Score The Wolf Pack and Mobile got their SSAC series started at Segnette Field on Friday
WESTWEGO – The Loyola Wolf Pack got off to a rocky start in their Southern States Athletic Conference series against the Mobile Rams, losing Game 1 Friday night 12-3. The Pack and the Rams will play two on Saturday to conclude their series, as the doubleheader is set to begin at 1 p.m. from Segnette Field.
The loss moves the Pack to 17-15 overall and 5-5 in Southern States Athletic Conference play.
A pair of three-run innings for Mobile put Loyola in a 7-1 hole through four and a half innings, and the Rams started with three runs in the top of the first inning to set the tone early. It wasn't until the bottom of the third until the Pack pushed their first run across, as Aaron Davis got things going with a single and a stolen base. He later scored with two outs when Allen Dennis singled to left, and that made the Mobile lead 3-1.
The Rams, however, got that run back in the top of the fourth, then they plated three more in the top of the fifth to take a 7-1 lead. Loyola tried to get back in the game with two runs in the home half of the frame, but it left the bases loaded and the tying run at the plate. Davis reached on a fielder's choice with one out, then a double by Payton Alexander made it a 7-2 game. Alexander scored a few at-bats later, 7-3, off a wild pitch, but the Wolf Pack stranded the three base runners.
Mobile hung another crooked number on the board in the sixth inning, extending its lead to 12-3. That lead would hold for the final few innings as well.
