Wolf Pack volleyball moves to 7-1 in SSAC Saturday

Box Score

The Loyola Wolf Pack volleyball team cruised to an easy win in Saturday's match at Brewton-Parker

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Two days after going five sets against Florida College in Temple Terrace, Florida, the Loyola Wolf Pack defeated Brewton Parker College in a quick three-set contest (25-7, 25-12, 25-6) in Mount Vernon, Georgia, Saturday. With the win, Loyola moves to 9-5 overall and 7-1 in Southern States Athletic Conference play, which is good for second place in the standings behind 8-1 Mobile.

Jordan Bernard and Casey Aucoin got things started in the opening set with two kills and an ace, respectively, then Kailyn O'Neal and Emily Sheperis got in on the action with a kill each to put the Wolf Pack up 12-3. Brittany Cooper and Aucoin each had two kills during the next scoring run for the Wolf Pack, extending the lead to 19-6. Cooper served up an ace and Jules Mokry and Sheperis finished the first set with back-to-back kills.

BPC grabbed its only lead of the match, 2-0, to start Set 2, but the Wolf Pack quickly tied it 3-3 before scoring seven of the game's next nine points to take a 10-5 lead. Sheperis and Cooper each recorded a kill and Aucoin had a couple of blocks during that stretch. Cooper had another ace and Mokry tallied consecutive kills to give the Wolf Pack a 15-7 advantage, then an ace by Bernard pushed the lead to 20-9. Cooper, Aucoin and Mokry ended the set with Loyola's final three points.

The Wolf Pack made quick work of BPC in the third set, as they ended the match on a 10-0 run. Sheperis started the set with two kills, and Aucoin, Mokry and Brandi Lopez each had one to help build a 7-3 lead. Aucoin had an ace during that opening run, too, and she had two more later in the set. The Wolf Pack combined for eight kills and four blocks the remainder of the set, as Gabriela Martinez and Lopez kept Loyola's foot to the pedal with kills each.

Loyola returns to the court Tuesday for its third straight road match, traveling to Blue Mountain College for a 4 p.m. start time.

Wolf Pack Head Coach Jesse Zabal

"Today was another all-around team win. We had great energy going into the match and they were focused on closing the weekend out with a strong win. We earned another season-high team hitting percentage, with Jules really leading the way with her 10 kills. Casey had another incredible afternoon of serving for us and helped us have probably one of the highest ace counts as a team in a while. They are all proud and excited to be coming home 7-1 in the conference. We know we still have a tough road ahead, but this group is putting in the work and staying focused on the goals we set for ourselves at the beginning of this school year."
