Big innings on offense by the visiting Toppers give them the edge over the Pack
WESTWEGO, La. – After claiming game one in the series Friday night, the Loyola University New Orleans baseball team fell in games two and three against Blue Mountain College, 18-4 and 12-0 respectively, on Saturday at Segnette Field.
The Toppers (20-19-1, 10-8 SSAC) began game two in the series, and the first of the day, with a six-run inning before adding seven more in the fourth. After falling behind 16-0, the Wolf Pack (16-25, 1-17 SSAC) were able to score a pair of runs on a two-run double by Michael Toscano in the sixth. After adding two more in the final inning, Loyola would fall by a final tally of 18-4.
The visitors continued to roll in the final game of the weekend, scoring in five of the eight innings played while keeping the Pack out of the run column. Loyola would fall to 16-25 on the season after a 12-0 loss.
The Wolf Pack travel to LSU-Alexandria for a doubleheader next, with game one set to begin on Tuesday, April 9 at 3 p.m.
Wolf Pack Head Coach Doug Faust
"It was a disappointing day coming off of last night. We didn't pitch well enough; too many free baserunners, walks, hit batters, and gave up too many hits. We didn't help defensively. I know we swung the bats well in the third game, but when you're down by so much, and not putting pressure on the other team, it's hard to have continuous good at bats. It's disappointing after last night, we won and were in good spirits this morning, ready to play a game, and we didn't play well; and that team is too good to not play well against."
