Loyola falls in a pair of games to one of the best teams in the country
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Loyola University New Orleans baseball team dropped games two and three of their series with No. 2 Faulkner Saturday afternoon, losing by a score of 13-4 in game one and 12-2 in game two.
In the first game of the day the Eagles (30-8, 14-1 SSAC) took a one-run lead in the bottom of the second, before the Wolf Pack (15-21, 0-15 SSAC) responded to tie the game on an RBI double from Patrick Crifasi. After the home team went out in front 6-1 in the bottom of the third, Loyola scored another on a sac-fly from Zachary Cook. The Pack were unable to match the offensive output of the second-ranked Eagles however, falling by a score of 13-4 in the seven-inning game one.
To begin game two, Loyola was able to hold Faulkner to a single run through the first four innings. However, the home team would take a 9-0 lead after scoring six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, and two more in the sixth. The Wolf Pack scored two in the top of the seventh inning but it wouldn't be enough, falling by 10 in the final game of the weekend series.
Loyola will remain on the road next week as they travel to Spring Hill College for a doubleheader on April 2 at 3 p.m.
Wolf Pack Head Coach Doug Faust
"We were outplayed in every facet of the game today, pitching, hitting, and defense. Now we have a non-conference game on Tuesday, so we need to get back to work on Monday and get ready for the doubleheader with Spring Hill."
