Loyola's offense records seven runs on 13 hits, but the RedHawks out-perform them in an 8-7 game
WESTWEGO, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans baseball team dropped a tough one-run contest with Martin Methodist Saturday afternoon at Segnette Field, falling by a score of 8-7.
After being honored pregame for senior day, Jesse Jordan reached base in the bottom of the first inning for the Wolf Pack (13-18, 0-12 SSAC), before Allen Dennis recorded his team-best 28th RBI on a single to right-center field. Loyola jumped out to a three-run lead on the RedHawks (18-12, 6-6 SSAC) in the third inning, after Dennis doubled and came in to score on a bases-loaded walk, with Michael Toscano adding one more on a sac-fly.
In the fourth inning, the visitors would plate six to take the lead, adding two more in the seventh to go out in front of Loyola 8-3. In the bottom of the inning, the Wolf Pack climbed back in it by adding four to their run total, highlighted by a two-run single to left field from leadoff-man Jase Biehl. Trailing by just one run 8-7, the Pack were unable to keep the momentum going, falling in game three of the weekend series.
Wolf Pack Head Coach Doug Faust
"We gave up one big inning, unlike last night, but we continued to give up the big hits while we failed to get the big hits ourselves. We've had so many opportunities, not just today, but also in the first game last night and last series. When the game's on the line, could be the first inning, second inning, or the last inning, when it's a game-winning moment we're not as good as the guys we're playing against, and that's why our record is what it is right now."
