Loyola Drops Game Three at Middle Georgia 16-6

The Wolf Pack leave 10 runners on base and are unable to outscore the 17th-ranked Knights

COCHRAN, Ga. – In the third and final game of their conference opening series, the Loyola University New Orleans baseball team fell to No. 17 Middle Georgia State Saturday afternoon 16-6 in an eight-inning contest.

Looking to avoid the sweep after dropping both games yesterday, the Wolf Pack (9-9, 0-3 SSAC) were able to get on the board quickly in the top of the first inning, with Zachary Cook scoring on a passed ball after singling to leadoff the game. The Knights (14-3, 3-0 SSAC) however, were able to respond with two in the bottom of the inning, before adding six more runs to make it an 8-1 game headed into the sixth.

With Payton Alexander and Jesse Jordan on base, a wild pitch by Middle Georgia allowed both runners to cross the plate, as Loyola chipped away at the deficit to make it 8-3. Loyola would add runs in the seventh inning on a two-RBI single from Michael Toscano, and eighth inning when Patrick Chen See doubled and scored on a passed ball, but would fall by a score of 16-6.

The Wolf Pack return home to Segnette Field next week and host Dakota State University for a doubleheader on Monday, March 4 at 11 a.m.

Wolf Pack Head Coach Doug Faust

"We started the game off sloppy defensively, which we're going to have to clean up. We can't keep giving good teams extra outs, every extra opportunity that we gave them they took advantage of. I thought we swung the bats pretty well today and all weekend, besides leaving runners on base. We just didn't pitch or play defense well enough to hold Middle Georgia State down."
