While the Wolf Pack pitching staff held the Barons to just five hits in each game, the offense was unable to keep up
WESTWEGO, La. – In their final two games with Brewton-Parker this weekend, the Loyola University New Orleans baseball team fell 4-2 in game one of the day and 1-0 in the second Saturday afternoon at Segnette Field.
In the first game of the day and second of the series overall, Michael Toscano got the start on the mound and put up another great performance. Over eight innings of work, the sophomore held the visiting Barons (13-18, 6-3 SSAC) to just one hit and one run while striking out four. In inning number six, Nathan Law reached base with a single to shortstop, before Allen Dennis drove him in to tie the game at one. Brewton-Parker would add three more runs in the top of the ninth however, with the Wolf Pack (11-15, 0-9 SSAC) managing to add one more in the bottom of the final inning to make it a 4-2 game.
Loyola got another gem from their starting pitcher in game two of the afternoon, this time from junior Wyatt Lankford, who tossed a complete seven-inning game without surrendering an earned run or a walk while fanning three batters. The Wolf Pack offense was only able to total three hits in the game, and would fall by a final score of 1-0 to the Barons.
Loyola hits the road early this coming week for a doubleheader at Tougaloo on Tuesday, March 19 at 1 p.m. before returning home for a weekend series at home with Martin Methodist.
Wolf Pack Head Coach Doug Faust
"Obviously in game one Mickey threw a great game for us. After seven innings we were tied, we had some hits but held them to just one. They happened to get a timely hit with a runner in scoring position. We had the opportunities but just couldn't capitalize. Game two was a pitcher's duel, Wyatt threw the ball really well. Unfortunately we lost the game and had that difficult play at first. Today, we had two starting pitchers do a great job for us but couldn't get the win, that happens sometimes in baseball."
