Loyola wins in straight sets on Senior Day

Box Score

The Wolf Pack earned their ninth conference of the season, which is the best mark since the 2010 season

NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola Wolf Pack concluded the regular season with a sweep (25-16, 25-17, 25-13) of Brewton-Parker Saturday. The Pack also completed a season sweep of the Barons, and went undefeated in the Southern State Athletic Conference South Division.

With the win, Loyola is now 18-17 overall on the season and 9-4 in SSAC play.

The opening set started close, but Loyola took the 1-0 match lead with a 25-16 win. With the set tied at 4-4, Loyola pushed the lead to 9-4 and 15-8. The Wolf Pack took complete control of the game when they grabbed a 20-10 advantage, then held off a late Baron rally.

The second set started much like the first, with neither team able to grab a multi-point lead until the Pack took a 10-8 lead. Brewton-Parker tied the set at 11-all and took a one-point lead, but Loyola quickly regain the advantage and eventually won easily 25-17.

Loyola didn't waste any time in the third set. The Wolf Pack jumped up 7-2, then scored the next eight of 11 points to make it a 15-5 game. Brewton-Parker never made run, as Loyola closed out the match 25-13.

The Wolf Pack now turn their attention to the SSAC Tournament, which begins next week. There are two four-team pools, with the Top 2 teams from each pool advancing to the conference semifinals. Loyola, the No. 5 seed, will play top-seeded Martin Methodist first on Wednesday, followed by matches with No.8 Blue Mountain and No. 4 William Carey on Thursday.

Wolf Pack Head Coach Jesse Zabal

"Today was a really great day to send off our seniors. We played a solid game today, and it also gave us a look at some things to focus on as we prepare for the conference tournament.

Malea Howie, Isabella Clayton, and Champagne Cunningham had strong games at the net. Sunni Blanchard had another great match connecting with her hitters and giving them a good set in order to score. Helene Masone also had another great defensive match.

All the seniors played their last match in The Den today, and they all played very well. The post-game talk in the locker room was filled with a lot of emotion and pride for what those four have done to boost this program forward. We're excited that we collectively get to continue this journey next week in Montgomery."
