Wolf Pack improves to 3-0 after win over Carver College Friday

Box Score

Loyola overcomes slow start to set a new school record for most points scored in a game

NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola Wolf Pack scored more than 100 points for the second time this season Friday, as the Wolf Pack handled Carver College 143-103.

Loyola's 143 points is a new school record for most points scored in a game. The record-breaking point came when Tensley Aldridge put back a rebound with three minutes left in the game. The previous record was 133 points, which was set during the 1996-97 season.

For Carver College, it couldn't have asked for a better start against the Wolf Pack. The Cougars began the game 12-4, but a put-back from Myles Burns halfway through the first half gave the Pack their first lead of the game, 20-19. He completed an old-fashioned 3-point play to make it a 21-19 lead, too.

Once Loyola grabbed the lead, it continued to push ahead thanks to hot shooting and tough defense. It quickly extended the lead to 45-30 with six minutes left in the half, then Burns scored seven of his 23 first-half points in the final nine seconds to take a 65-52 lead into the break. Andrew Fava went 4-for-5 from the 3-point line during that stretch, and the Wolf Pack shot 55 percent from the field for the rest of the half.

The Wolf Pack started the second half on fire with a 16-0 run that spanned over three minutes. That pushed the advantage to 81-54, and the Cougars never could get back into the game.

Loyola has completed its three-game homestand to start the season, and it'll hit the road for the next three contests. First, the Wolf Pack will travel to Division I Louisiana-Lafayette on Tuesday for a 7 p.m.

Wolf Pack Head Coach Stacy Hollowell

"It's hard to go into a locker room and tell a team that generated 42 turnovers that they played bad defense, but the truth is we did not play defense well at all. It's fun to play fast and we would like to be able to sustain that pace offensively, but we have to be able to do it on both ends of the floor.

"Carver came out with more energy and focus than we did, and it gave us an early scare. We were able to settle in a little bit after the 10-minute mark and make a decent run. But the way we played defense coming out of the half was more like what we're looking for, and we have to be able to sustain that for 40 minutes."
