Box Score Loyola rallied behind a career night from Maddie Huekels, but the RedHawks edged out the close victory
NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team went the full five sets in a 3-2 home loss against Martin Methodist on Saturday afternoon.
The first set remained close, hitting an even 8-8 score before eventually reaching 15-all. The visitors would go on a run however, winning set one by five, 25-20. The Wolf Pack (10-7, 2-2 SSAC) would then rally back for wins in the next two sets.
The second frame went past the usual 25-point for just the second time during Loyola's season, as the closest set of the match saw a 27-25 Pack victory. The home team would take that momentum into the third period, taking a 2-1 lead in the match after a 25-14 set three win.
The RedHawks battled back however, winning the fourth frame 25-22 to force a fifth set, where they edged out Loyola 15-12 for the match victory.
The Wolf Pack remain at home to begin next week, hosting Mobile on Tuesday, September 25th at 7 p.m. in The Den.
"We saw a lot of good things, good changes from last night's match. The more we play our offensive and defensive systems consistently, the more we will be able to control these matches in our favor. Tylar Beckham performed well tonight. She hit the ball well and added a lot of blocks for us."
"We also relied on a few more freshman to go into a tough match and make big plays for us, and they did that. The fact that we can do that with confidence is promising for the remainder of this year and for future seasons."
Pack Facts
Maddie Huekels notched her third triple-double of the season with 23 assists, 14 digs, and a career-high 16 kills.
Tylar Beckham registered 13 kills on the evening, her third-straight match with 10 or more kills.
Junior Sunni Blanchard hit a career-high in digs today with 19, while adding a season-best 26 assists.
Champagne Cunningham set a career-high in blocks today with five.
