Wolf Pack Fall In Close First Game Before Winning Game Two By 10

After Brewton-Parker claimed game one on a walk-off home run, the Loyola bats exploded for 11 runs in game two

MT. VERNON, Ga. - In the first two games of their weekend series with Brewton-Parker, the Loyola University New Orleans baseball team split Friday's contests, falling 5-4 in game one before taking an 11-1 victory in game two.

In the first game of the afternoon, the Barons (10-31, 2-15) were first to plate runs, scoring two in the bottom of the first inning. In the third inning, the Wolf Pack (17-25, 2-15) jumped out to a two-run lead, plating four runs after Spencer Rosenbohm connected on his second home run of the season to lead it off. After John Hernandez reached base on a walk, Jase Biehl came in to pinch run and was brought in after stealing second and two-straight singles from Rawlings Elam and Zachary Cook.

In the next at-bat, Jesse Jordan loaded the bases after reaching on a bunt single, before Allen Dennis drew a walk to bring in another run. A sac-fly from Payton Alexander would bring the fourth run across in the inning.

Brewton-Parker would tie the game at four in the next inning, plating two runs before hitting a walkoff home run in the bottom of the seventh to win 5-4.

While neither team was able to score to open up game two, the Pack finally jumped out to a lead in the top of the third, plating four. Cook singled to bring in Gabriel Trastoy before Elam came in to score on a Dennis hit that was misplayed at third base. Ben Condara would later hit a two-RBI single to put Loyola up 4-0.

While the Barons would respond with one run in the bottom of the third, the Pack added three more in the fifth, highlighted by a two-run home run from Dennis. Starter Joseph Kuchler kept the home team off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game, tossing a one-run complete game.

In the eighth and what would be final inning, Loyola tacked on four more runs to take a 10-run lead, ending the contest by the run rule.

Game three for the Pack will start early tomorrow morning at 9 a.m., as the two teams will try and get a game in with rain in the afternoon forecast.

Wolf Pack Head Coach Doug Faust

"In the first game, Jason Roussel pitched well for the most part, minus two or three pitches, and we swung the bats well offensively. We had a few chances to blow it open and couldn't. Give Brewton-Parker credit, they put two good swings on pitches and hit two big home runs. They beat us, we didn't beat ourselves."

"Joseph Kuchler threw a complete game for us in game two which we really needed. With Jason and Joseph throwing complete games for us we have the whole staff available tomorrow. Hopefully we keep swinging the bats well like we did today and can carry it over into tomorrow."
