Hosting the Pilots for a weekday doubleheader, the Wolf Pack fall 5-2 in game one and 3-1 in game two
WESTWEGO, La. - In two tightly contested ball games the Loyola University New Orleans baseball team fell to Louisiana State University Shreveport in a doubleheader, 5-2 in the the first game and 3-1 in the second, Tuesday afternoon at Segnette Field.
The Wolf Pack (15-20) were able to take an early lead in the bottom of the first after Brandon Wilson Jr. was able to reach third base on a hit-by-pitch and ensuing throwing error from the pitcher. Jesse Jordan was able to lay down a sacrifice bunt in the next at bat to allow Wilson to cross home plate. Making his first start of the season, Michael Toscano held the Pilots (24-12) off the board in his two innings of work, allowing only two hits while striking out a pair.
The visitors were able to get on the board in the fourth inning however, bringing in four runs to jump out to a three-run lead. In the bottom of the inning with one out, Allen Dennis connected on a ball and sent it over the left field fence for his fourth homer of the year, making it 4-2. However, after LSU-Shreveport added a fifth run in the next inning, Loyola was unable to plate any more runs of their own, falling in game one 5-2.
The Pilots jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead to begin game two, scoring one run in the first inning and two in the third. In the bottom of the fifth, Jase Biehl scored on a sac-fly to center field from Wilson to make it a two-run game, but Loyola was unable to get anything else going offensively, dropping game two by a final score of 3-1.
The Wolf Pack will remain at home this weekend, jumping back into their conference schedule and hosting No. 15 Middle Georgia State beginning with a doubleheader Friday, March 30th at 4 p.m.
Wolf Pack Head Coach Doug Faust
"We're continuing to struggle to tie consecutive good at bats together. We keep showing up with a good attitude and a good mindset, ready to break through and get back on a roll. Just because we want to doesn't mean we get to though, so we just have to keep battling. But until we start eliminating -- today we had all those wild pitches, walks and the hit batters, we helped them a great deal today -- offensively we didn't do enough in either game."
"I just told the guys, keep showing up, practice tomorrow, keep turning the page and move on to the next day because today is done. Don't let it get in our head and don't let it bother us, move forward."
