The Wolf Pack take game two 3-1 after falling in the first 4-3
TOUGALOO, Miss. - The Loyola University New Orleans baseball team split a road doubleheader at Tougaloo College today, defeating the Bulldogs 3-1 after dropping game one 4-3 Wednesday evening.
In game number one, the Wolf Pack (5-2) fell in a close contest as the Bulldogs (2-4) scored on a walk-off triple by Lige Mims Jr. in the bottom of the seventh. Loyola led for a majority of the game, jumping out to a 3-1 advantage after scoring two in the top of the third. The Pack scored their first run of the game in the top of the second, when Spencer Rosenbohm hit the team's first home run of the season. With two outs in the third, Michael Toscano smacked an RBI single that drove in Jesse Jordan, before Rosenbohm drove in Ben Condara on a single of his own. Tougaloo would go on to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth before the game-winner in the seventh.
In the second game of the evening, Loyola jumped out to an early lead in the top of the second. With Brandon Wilson Jr. on second and Payton Alexander at first, Jase Biehl smacked a triple to right field, bringing both runners across the plate. The Pack added to their lead in the following inning, as Jordan reached first on a walk and stole both second and third before crossing home on a pop out. Sophomore Wyatt Lankford tossed five strong innings in game number two for Loyola, earning the win before Rosenbohm came in for the two-inning save.
Due to a recent schedule change, the Wolf pack will host Louisiana College for a doubleheader at Segnette Field on Saturday, with the first game beginning at 1 p.m.
Wolf Pack Head Coach Doug Faust
"In both games we pitched really well, we hit the ball pretty well too, until we had runners in scoring position. Although we had a one run lead in the first game we had chances to extend it, but they tied the game on a bloop and won it on an extra base hit. Tougaloo is a competitive and scrappy team, and we just couldn't put them away."
"In the second game we had a big, clutch hit by Jase Biehl with a triple, and both Wyatt and Spencer pitched really well. We have to get better with men in scoring position though. I can attribute that to not seeing a lot of action with the rain we've had, but hopefully as we continue to play more, that comes along. Like I said, Tougaloo is a pretty scrappy team and they play the game hard, and that's what got us in the first game."
