Box Score Kaila Anthony and Megan Worry guide Loyola to their seventh win of the season
NEW ORLEANS – Beginning a three-game homestand over the next four days, the Loyola University New Orleans women's basketball team hosted Faulkner in The Den, defeating them 62-51 Friday night.
The Wolf Pack (7-4, 2-1) opened the game scoring on their first four offensive possessions, with contributions from Megan Worry, Kaila Anthony and Presley Wascom. Faulkner (7-3, 1-2) would match Loyola's hot start however, holding an 11-8 lead just under midway through the quarter. After a layup from Anthony drew the game even at 13, Tay Cannon would add two of her own to give the Pack a 15-13 lead. Adding two more before the buzzer, Loyola would lead 17-13 at the end of the first quarter.
The visiting Eagles made it a one-point game on a three-pointer with eight minutes left in the half before the Wolf Pack jumped back out 23-18 after a put back from Cannon. Neither team would allow the other to take a significant lead, with Loyola taking a 25-23 advantage into the halftime break.
The school's all-time leader in three-point shooting percentage, Paige Franckiewicz knocked down her first triple of the game as the Pack jumped out to a 30-23 lead to start the second half. Loyola would keep the visitors at bay, owning a seven-point lead at the start of the fourth, 47-40. While Faulkner scored five quick points to open the final period and make it a one possession game, the Pack climbed back out seven, with the score at 57-50 with 2:24 on the clock. Loyola would go on to win their third-straight, with the scoreboard reading 62-51 at the final horn in favor of the Wolf Pack.
