Double-Double By Ben Fields Fuels Pack Over Middle Georgia State

Box Score

Fields Records his second-straight double-double to keep the Wolf Pack undefeated in the SSAC

NEW ORLEANS - The Loyola University New Orleans men's basketball team used a big second half to top Middle Georgia State University today, claiming their third straight victory with a 88-68 win Saturday night in The Den.

The entire first half was a back-and-forth battle as the Wolf Pack (9-5, 5-0) began the game with two quick baskets by Benjamin Fields (SR/Bernice, La.). The visiting Knights (5-8, 1-5) however, answered back with eight unanswered points of their own. Neither team gave an inch in the first period, as there were 10 total ties and eight lead changes. At the break, Fields nearly had a double-double, scoring 12 points to go with nine rebounds.

The Wolf Pack came out attacking to begin the second half, with Fields and Terry Smith Jr. (FR/Chicago, Ill.) connecting on two quick buckets. Loyola would continue their run, taking a double-digit lead with 13 minutes remaining and never let go. The Pack would go on to claim their third-straight win by 20 points or more, and remain atop the SSAC with a 5-0 record.

Fields recorded his second-consecutive double-double tonight, ending with a career-best 25 points to go with 14 rebounds. He was not the only one to hit that mark, as Smith added 17 points and 13 boards for his sixth double-double on the season. Nick Parker (SR/Port Allen, La.) chipped in an additional 18 points while adding seven rebounds and four assists.

Middle Georgia State was lead by Roshaun Milline with 24 points, while Rydealous Taylor and Darrell White added 13 and 12 respectively.

The Pack will continue conference play next Thursday, January 11th, at Martin Methodist, with a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
