Box Score Wolf Pack go 1-3 at the UST Labor Day Tournament in Houston.
Coming off a convincing 3-1 victory over St. Thomas (TX) earlier in the day, the Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team returned to the Jerabeck Activity and Athletic Center on Sunday night to square off against Saint Gregory's University (OK) in the final match of the UST Labor Day Tournament.
Hindered by a negative hitting percentage, the Wolf Pack fell 0-3 (17-25,23-25,19-25) to the Cavaliers on Sunday evening to leave Houston with a 5-8 overall record.
After setting a career high with 19 digs on Saturday, Katie Philippi (SR/Metairie, La.) matched that number with a team-high 19 digs off the bench against Saint Gregory's. Beatriz Agosto (FR/Miami, Fl.) and Maddie Huekels (SO/Dyer, In.) each collected three kills against the Cavaliers, while Sunni Blanchard (FR/Pierre Part, La.) chipped in a team-high five assists to go along with 13 digs.
As a team, Loyola tallied 12 kills on 107 total attacks with 22 errors to finish the match with a -0.093 hitting percentage.
Gabby Ware led the Cavaliers with seven kills and Kayley Davis added a game-high 24 digs in the victory.
The Wolf Pack left Houston after going 1-3 at the two day UST Labor Day Tournament. The host Celts and Southwestern Christian (OK) both ended the tournament with a 3-1 record to share the tournament title. Individually, Allison Hartmann (SO/Slidell, La.) finished fourth in the five-team tournament with a .247 hitting percentage and Philippi wrapped up play in Houston with the fourth most digs (61) in the field.
Loyola kicks off conference play on Thursday, September 8, when it welcomes William Carey University to First NBC Court for a match set to start at 6:00 p.m.
