Box Score Loyola caps off play at the UST Labor Day Tournament with a match against Saint Gregory's at 5:00 p.m.
Looking to bounce back from a 0-2 Saturday, the Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team returned to the Jerabeck Activity and Athletic Center on Sunday morning for day two of the UST Labor Day Tournament hosted by the University of St. Thomas.
The Wolf Pack squared off with a familiar foe in the morning session as they took on the host Celts, a team Loyola beat 3-1 at home less than a week ago. Today's result mirrored that of August's contest, with Loyola grabbing the 3-1 (20-25,22-25,25-22,20-25) victory over St. Thomas to improve to 5-7 on the year.
Tylar Beckham (SO/New Orleans, La.) lead Loyola's effort against the Celts, finishing the match with a team-high 10 kills on 17 total attempts (.412). Maddie Huekels (SO/Dyer, In.) continued her impressive play from the back row on Sunday, tallying 19 assists, seven digs and four kills in the victory. Katie Philippi (SR/Metairie, La.) paced the Wolf Pack defense with 14 digs, while Allison Hartman chipped in a team-high four blocks to go along with nine kills against the Celts.
As a team, Loyola ended the match with 46 kills (.250) with 43 assists, 42 digs, nine aces and eight blocks on Sunday.
Carissa Moran was tops on St. Thomas with 13 kills and Lauren Frenandez-Miller handed out a game-high 23 helpers in the loss.
The Wolf Pack cap off play at the UST Labor Day Tournament tonight, September 4, with a match against Saint Gregory's at 5:00 p.m.
