Loyola volleyball goes a perfect 3-0 at home on Saturday

Wolf Pack return to First NBC Court on Tuesday to host a tri-match against St. Thomas-Houston and Xavier.

  

After kicking off the 2016 season last week in Colorado, the Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team returned home to Crescent City to host the Loyola Wolf Pack Tournament on the newly renamed First NBC Court.

The homecoming could have not gone any better as the Wolf Pack won each of their nine sets en route to a 3-0 finish on the day.

Following a 0-4 start, Loyola improves to 3-4 on the year heading into a tri-match at home on Tuesday.

 

Loyola vs. Huston-Tillotson – W, 3-0 (25-12,26-24,25-17)

The Wolf Pack kicked off the tournament with a shutout which saw Loyola nearly double their opponents kill total (43-29).  Allison Hartmann (SO/Slidell, La.) paced the Wolf Pack attack with 10 kills, while Maddie Huekels (SO/Dyer, In.) dished out a season-high 20 assists in the victory.  Off the bench, Kaitlynn Watson (FR/South Lake Tahoe, Ca.) scooped up a team-high nine digs and Malea Howie (FR/Greenwood, Ind.) chipped in five kills in match one.

Breanna Taylor and Laycia Robinson had eight kills each for the Rams, with Savannah Borjas handing out a team-high eight helpers.

 

Loyola vs. Southern University New Orleans – W, 3-0 (25-10,25-13,25-16)

Loyola was just as impressive in its second match, collecting 37 kills while holding SUNO to just a 1.61 hitting percentage. The Wolf Pack were deadly with their serves, collecting an impressive 19 service aces – led by Beatriz Agosto (FR/Miami, Fl.)'s six -  in match two.   Tyler Beckham led the charge against the Knights with seven kills and Sunni Blanchard (FR/Pierre Part, La.) gave out a team-high nine assists off the bench.  Maddie Huekels collected five digs to go along with six kills and eight assists in the shutout.

Sonia Bobovic's 10 kills off the bench were the most for the Knights and Marija Stojilijkovic led the team with 16 assists in the loss.

 

Loyola vs. Jarvis Christian – W, 3-0 (25-12,25-12,25-13)

 The Wolf Pack saved perhaps their most dominating performance for last, keeping the Bulldogs to under 13 points in each set.  Loyola forced 16 errors in the match while holding Jarvis Christian to a .075 hitting percentage.

Hartmann poured in a career-high 14 kills, while adding a team-high two blocks for the home team. Sunni Blanchard tallied her best assist total of her young career – handing out 18 in the victory.  Kaitlynn Watson chipped in 11 digs off the bench and Maddie Huekels handed out 12 assists in the shutout.

Talicia Lang led Jarvis Christian with four kills, while Kandice Jackson paced the offense with eight assists.

The Wolf Pack return to the First NBC Court on Tuesday, August 30, for a tri-match with St. Thomas-Houston and Xavier starting at 3:00 p.m.
