Wolf Pack now 18-25 on the year and 4-13 in the SSAC. Loyola will travel to take on NCAA DII Spring Hill College in a single game on Tuesday.
Following two losses yesterday, the Loyola University New Orleans Baseball team returned to Segnette Field on Saturday afternoon to wrap up its three-game series with No. 17 Middle Georgia State University.
Despite overcoming a four-run deficit to force extra innings, the Wolf Pack fell to the Knights 8-5 on Saturday.
Loyola now sits at 18-25 on the year and 4-13 in the SSAC following the loss.
Ben Condara (SO/Houston, Tx.) led Loyola with three hits, one run and one RBI. Alexander Lorenzo (JR/Miami, Fla.), Luis Anguizola (JR/David, Chiriqui, Panama) and Daniel Pappas (SR/Chicago, Ill.) each collected a RBI in the loss, with Anguizola adding a team-high 13 putouts.
On the mound, Joseph Kuchler (SO/Metairie, La.) (3-3) got the loss after giving up three runs (three earned) on three hits in 1.0 innings pitched.
With Middle Georgia State leading 4-0 in the third, Britt Pellegrin (JR/Bourg, La.) led off the bottom of the inning with a double. Daniel Pappas followed with a single to advance Pellegrin to third. Spencer Rosenbohm (SO/Daphne, Ala.) then connected on a sacrifice fly to score Pellegrin and bring the score to 4-1.
The Wolf Pack put up one more run in the bottom of the fourth following a walk to cut the deficit to 4-2 entering the fifth.
The Knights tacked on a run in the top of the fifth to stretch their lead to 5-2.
In the bottom of the seventh, Jesse Jordan (FR/New Iberia, La.) scored on a fielder's choice before Ben Condara singled in Rosenbohm from third to bring Loyola within one at 5-4.
Trailing by one in the bottom of the ninth, Elam led off the inning with a double to centerfield. Condara followed with a single to advance Elam to third and put the tying run in scoring position. Lorenzo then smacked a single to center to score Elam and knot the game at 5-5 with one out. The Knights turned a double play to end the inning and force an extra frame.
In the 10th, Middle Georgia State smacked a three-run home run to grab the commanding 8-5 lead.
The Wolf Pack collected two hits in the bottom of the tenth but both baserunners would be left stranded, as the Knights took the 8-5 victory to sweep the series.
The Wolf Pack hit the road on Tuesday, April 12, to take on NCAA DII Spring Hill College in a single game at 3:00 p.m.
