Loyola now 18-24 on the year and 4-12 in the SSAC following the losses. Wolf Pack and Middle Georgia State cap off their three-game series with a game tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
Coming off two home losses against (RV) Martin Methodist College last weekend, the Loyola University New Orleans Baseball team returned to Segnette Field on Friday evening for a SSAC doubleheader against No. 17 Middle Georgia State University.
The Wolf Pack struggled against the Knights on Friday, dropping game one 8-1, before falling 10-0 in eight innings in game two.
With the losses, Loyola drops to 18-24 on the year and 4-12 overall. Despite the losses, the Wolf Pack still hold a three-game advantage over Blue Mountain College and Brewton-Parker College for the eighth and final spot approaching the SSAC Tournament.
Game One – Loyola 1, Middle Georgia State 8
Jordan Wilson (SO/San Francisco, Ca. ) led the Wolf Pack in game one, collecting one hit and the lone RBI in the contest. Blake Toscano (JR/Metairie, La.), Luis Anguizola (JR/David, Chiriqui, Panama), Ben Condara (SO/Houston, Tx.) and Peyton Senner (JR/New Orleans, La.) and Daniel Pappas (SR/Chicago, Ill.) each collected a hit in the loss, with Anguizola recording a game-high eight putouts.
Daniel Posway (SR/Sugarland, Texas) (1-6) got the loss after surrendering six runs (six earned) on eight hits in 6.0 innings pitched.
Loyola struck first in game one, with Wilson connecting on a single to left to score Toscano who led off the inning with a single.
The score remained 1-0 until the fourth, when the Knights tacked on three in the fourth to take the 3-1 lead. The visitors then put up three more runs in the fifth to stretch their advantage to 6-1.
In the seventh, Middle Georgia State put up two more runs to push the lead to 8-1 heading in to the bottom of the seventh.
Pappas led off the seventh with a double but that proved to be the only hit for the Wolf Pack in the inning as they fell 8-1 in game one.
Game Two – Loyola 0, Middle Georgia State 10 (Eight innings)
Lorenzo and John Hernandez (SO/Tampa, Fl.) each added a hit in game two, while Anguizola recorded a game-high six putouts in the loss.
Jason Roussel (SO/Baton Rouge, La.) (1-2) got the loss after allowing five runs (five earned) on four hits in 2.1 innings pitched.
In the first six innings, the visitors put up nine runs to grab the commanding 9-0 lead.
Middle Georgia State tacked on one more in the top of the eighth to go up 10-0 entering the bottom of the inning.
Hernandez's single to centerfield proved to be the only hit for the Wolf Pack in the inning, to drop game two 10-0.
Loyola and the Knights wrap up the three-game series tomorrow, with first pitch of the single game set to start at 1:00 p.m.
