Loyola baseball splits with (RV) Mobile on Saturday afternoon

Wolf Pack will take on NCAA DI Southern University on Tuesday, April 19, with first pitch from Baton Rouge set for 6:00 p.m.

Following an 11-1 loss in eight innings yesterday, the Loyola University New Orleans Baseball team returned to Jacobs Field on Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader against (RV) the University of Mobile.

The Wolf Pack split the twinbill with the Rams on Saturday, dropping game one 2-0 before claim the final game 4-3.

Following Saturday's action, Loyola now sits at 19-28 on the year and 5-15 in the conference play. The victory in the finale keeps the Wolf Pack one game ahead of Blue Mountain College for the eighth and final spot to qualify for Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Championship.

Game One: Loyola 0, Mobile 2

Loyola had a tough time at the plate against Mobile's Josh Shelley in game one, with Lance Licciardi (SR/River Ridge, La.) and Joseph Kuchler (SO/Metairie, La.) recording the only hits for the visitors.

Despite the loss, Jason Roussel (SO/Baton Rouge, La.) (1-3) recorded six strong innings for the Wolf Pack, allowing only two runs (two earned) on seven hits.

Mobile did its damage in the third and sixth inning, putting up one run in each, to take the 2-0 victory in the first game of the doubleheader.

Game Two: Loyola 4, Mobile 3

The Wolf Pack were far more effective at the plate in game two, tallying 11 hits led by Ben Condara (SO/Houston, Tx.)'s game-high three. Alexander Lorenzo (JR/Miami, Fla.), Jordan Wilson (SO/San Francisco, Ca. ) and Spencer Rosenbohm (SO/Daphne, Ala.) each went 2-for-4 in game two, with Rosenbohm adding two RBI while Wilson accounted for the other.

Kevin Lindsey (SR/Baton Rouge, La.) (6-4) got his first win in his last three appearances, allowing just three runs (three earned) on 11 hits in the complete game victory.

The home team struck first in game two, tacking on a run in the bottom of the first to take the 1-0 lead.

Lorenzo led off the second with a single and then stole second to give Loyola one runner on with no outs.  Condara then singled to left to put two men on, before Wilson connected on a single to score Lorenzo from third and knot the game at 1-1. With two outs, Rosenbohm singled to right to score Wilson and Britt Pellegrin (JR/Bourg, La.) to give Loyola the 3-1 lead.

The Wolf Pack held the 3-1 advantage until the seventh when Mobile managed to score two runs in the bottom of the inning to knot the game at 3-3.

With one out in the eighth, Lorenzo doubled to left to give Loyola a baserunner. He would then score off a wild throw to put the Wolf Pack back on top 4-3.

The Rams only managed to land one baserunner in the ninth, and he would be left stranded following a popup, to give the Wolf Pack 4-3 victory in series finale.
