Loyola baseball cruises to 12-6 victory over Blue Mountain College on Saturday

Ben Condara (SO/Houston, Tx.) goes 3-for-5 with four RBI and a home run to lead the Wolf Pack.

After splitting yesterday's doubleheader, the Loyola University New Orleans Baseball team returned to the BNA Sportsplex on Saturday to wrap up its three game series with Blue Mountain College.

Powered by a career day from Ben Condara, the Wolf Pack downed the Toppers 12-6 to win the series 2-1.

Starting at designated hitter, Condara led Loyola with three hits, four RBI and one home run. Blake Toscano (JR/Metairie, La.) added two runs and two RBI, while Jordan Wilson (SO/San Francisco, Ca. ), Alexander Lorenzo (JR/Miami, Fla.), Lance Licciardi (SR/River Ridge, La.) and Spencer Rosenbohm (SO/Daphne, Ala.) each collected one RBI in the victory.

With the win, Loyola improves to 18-20 overall and 4-8 in the SSAC.

On the mound, Joseph Kuchler (3-2) got the win after allowing just one run (one earned) on four hits in seven innings pitched.

With the score stuck at 0-0 in the second, Condara connected on a double to score Lorenzo from second to put the Wolf Pack on the board first. With two outs, Licciardi flied out to left to score Britt Pellegrin (JR/Bourg, La.) and put Loyola up 2-0.

The home team managed to tack on one run in the bottom of the second to bring the score to 2-1 entering the third.

The Wolf Pack's offense exploded in the top of the third, putting up five runs on seven hits to take the commanding 7-1 advantage.

The Toppers quickly responded with four runs in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to 7-5 heading in to the fourth.

The score remained 7-5 until the top of the sixth, when Toscano scored off a fly out by Wilson to make the score 8-5.

With one out in the top of seventh, Condara took a 2-0 pitch over the left field wall to extend the cushion to 9-5. Licciardi followed with a walk before advancing to second after a single by Rosenbohm. Licciardi and Rosenbohm then both scored on a Blue Mountain error to bring the score to 11-5.

Both teams scored a run in the eighth and the scoreboard read 12-6 entering the final frame.

The Toppers bid for a comeback quickly ended in the ninth, as they were retired in order to give Loyola the 12-6 victory on the road.

The Wolf Pack return to Segnette Field on Friday, April 1, to take on Martin Methodist in a three-game series. First pitch of Friday's doubleheader is set for 4:00 p.m.
