Box Score 2 Wolf Pack falls to Mid-American Christian 3-1, before dropped the 3-0 decision to host Jarvis Christian College 3-0.
The Loyola New Orleans Volleyball team kicked off the 2015 season on Wednesday as they headed to Hawkins, Texas to participate in the Jarvis Christian College Tri-Match on the campus of Jarvis Christian College. The Wolf Pack dropped both contests at the event, falling to Mid-American Christian (OK) 3-1 (14-25,25-21,25-10,25-20), before being defeated by host Jarvis Christian College (TX) 3-0 (28-30,22-25,21-25).
Match One – Mid-American Christian 3, Loyola 1
Coming off a 3-0 victory over Jarvis Christian College to start the tournament, the Lady Evangels came into their match against the Wolf Pack riding high. Mid-American kept its momentum rolling, taking the first set 25-14.
Despite the loss in the first set, Loyola battled back to take the second set 25-21 to knot the match at 1-1.
The Lady Evangels quickly recovered from their second set loss, cruising to a 25-10 win to take the match lead at 2-1.
With the 2-1 lead, Mid-American Christian shut the door against the Wolf Pack, taking the fourth set 25-20 to earn the 3-1 victory.
Sr. OH Eva Allen (Oakland, Ca./Head-Royce) led the way for Loyola, recording nine kills while adding two block assists. So. DS Elizabeth Scioneaux (Reserve, La./East St. John) paced the Wolf Pack defense with 11 digs and So. S Lindsay Ulfig (Saline, Mi./Malone) dished out a team-high eight assists.
Match Two – Jarvis Christian 3, Loyola 0
Loyola's second match proved to be a battle, as all three sets were decided by four points or less. In set one, the Wolf Pack and Bulldogs exchanged blows throughout and the score was tied at 25-25 to force some free volleyball. After trading the lead for a while, Jarvis Christian managed to emerge with the 30-28 victory.
The second set proved to be as close as the first, with the teams continuing to trade the lead. Once again, the Bulldogs survived to claim the 25-22 win and take the 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third set, Loyola hung with Jarvis Christian the entire way but the Bulldogs outlasted the Wolf Pack to take the 25-21 victory and claim the match 3-0.
Allen led Loyola in kills once again, racking up 13 in the loss. Scioneaux collected another 11 digs and Ulfig chipped in with 12 assists.
