(McKenzie, Tenn.) Loyola University New Orleans baseball failed to avoid being swept by SSAC opponent Bethel today, falling 11- 4 to the Wildcats in the finale of the three-game series. Bethel came from behind to win both games of yesterday's doubleheader, and they won today's game in similar fashion as the Pack surrendered a 4-1 early lead.
Loyola (22-26, 8-19 SSAC) scored first in this one when a Bethel throwing error allowed Jordan Wilson to come home from second base in the top of the first inning. However, a Sam Seaton single in the bottom of the inning scored Wes Warren to knot the game right back up.
The Wolf Pack responded with three runs in the second inning as Daniel Pappas hit a two-RBI single to score Britt Pellegrin and Alexander Lorenzo, and Wilson singled to deep right field to bring in Andrew Fournet and give the Pack a three run advantage.
That lead would be short lived, however. Bethel (15-22, 11-12 SSAC) scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning and three more in the third, and suddenly the Wildcats had taken a 6-4 lead.
Though the Pack had chances to score, they left at least one runner on base in each of the final six innings, the Bethel pitching staff held them scoreless for the remainder of the game while the Wildcats hitters managed four more runs in the sixth inning and one in the eighth to add to their lead.
Justin Lister earned the win for Bethel, allowing four earned runs in seven innings of work. Stewart Campbell took the loss for Loyola, surrendering six earned runs in three innings.
The Pack managed just four runs, but totaled 11 hits and drew seven walks. Carmel LoSaruo led the way with three hits, Jordan Wilson added two hits while Rawlings Elam, John Nicholson, Joseph Kuchler, Pappas, Pellegrin and Lorenzo had one hit each. Pellegrin extends his current hitting streak to nine games.
Warren led the Wildcats with three hits, three RBI and two runs scored. Kendall Adkisson was 2-3 with four RBI.
Next up for Loyola, the Pack travel to Pineville, La. on Tuesday, April 21 to take on Louisiana College. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
