(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans baseball lost the opener of a three game series versus No. 2 Faulkner, 8-3, tonight at Segnette Field.
A six run second inning propelled Faulkner (25-2, 9-1 SSAC) to victory as the Wolf Pack was forced to play catch up for the remainder of the game. The Eagles scored another run in the fourth inning to increase their lead to seven runs.
The Wolf Pack (14-14, 3-10 SSAC) began to chip away at the Faulkner lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as Rawlings Elam and Alexander Lorenzo both came around to score after leading off the inning with back-to-back singles. A Joseph Kuchler single in the seventh inning brought in Britt Pellegrin to give Loyola another run, cutting the lead down four. But Faulkner scored again in the top of the ninth and the Pack failed to bring any runs across in the final two frames.
Joel Buhler took the loss for the Wolf Pack, allowing six earned runs in eight innings of work. Buhler struck out eight Eagles batters. Phillip Anderson earned the win for Faulkner, striking out nine and allowing three earned runs in seven innings.
Elam finished the game 3-4 with one run scored in the leadoff spot for the Pack. Lorenzo, Pellegrin, Lance Licciardi and Kuchler all had one hit each for Loyola.
Nick Cain was 3-4 with one home run and three RBI for the Eagles. Chis Madera had one hit but scored twice and drove in two runs.
Loyola and Faulkner will conclude their three game series tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
