The Loyola University New Orleans Volleyball team capped off the 2015 regular season on Saturday afternoon, traveling to take on SSAC foe Faulkner University inside the Tine Davis Gymnasium. The Eagles completed the season sweep at home, defeating the Wolf Pack 3-0 (25-16,25-18,25-16) to end the season.
Following the loss, Loyola ends the regular season with a 16-19 overall record and a 6-10 mark in conference matches. Faulkner improves to 21-12 on the year and 10-6 in league play following the victory.
The first set saw both teams battle to a 5-5 tie early on. The Eagles scored three-straight to take the 8-5 lead at home. Down 15-13, back-to-back kills from Sr. OH Eva Allen (Oakland, Calif./Head-Royce) brought the Wolf Pack within one at 15-14. Faulkner ended the set on a 10-2 run to claim victory 25-16.
Set two started almost identically to the first set and both teams were knotted up at 5-5 early. The Eagles tallied five points in a row to go up 10-5 and force a Loyola timeout. Down 20-13, the Wolf Pack capitalized on three Faulkner errors to cut the deficit to four at 20-16. The home team closed out the second set on a 5-2 run to win 25-18 and go up 2-0 in the match.
Loyola jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the third set thanks to two kills byAllen and one from Fr. MB Allison Hartmann (Slidell, La./Pope John Paul II). The Eagles responded with a 7-1 run to hop out to the 9-6 advantage. Faulkner followed that with a 5-0 run to stretch the advantage to 15-8 at home. The Eagles closed out the set with a 5-1 run to complete the sweep.
Allen led Loyola on Saturday, recording a team-high eight kills and 16 digs. Fr. S Maddie Huekels (Dyer, Ind./Marian Catholic) dished out a team-high 15 assists, while Jr. L Katie Philippi (Metairie, La./Haynes)added 12 digs in the loss.
The Wolf Pack head to Alabama on Thursday, Nov. 12, to take part in the SSAC Tournament held in Montgomery.
