FRI, 11/06/2015

Following a week off, the Loyola University New Orleans Volleyball team returned to action on Friday, taking on Dalton State College on the road. Despite a great game by So. S Lindsay Ulfig (Saline, Mich./Malone), the Wolf Pack fell on the road 3-0 (25-17,25-23,25-21) inside the Bandy Gymnasium.

Friday's match was a very special evening, as both teams wore ‪#‎RANASTRONG‬ shirts during warmups to honor former Roadrunner volleyball player Rana Mashburn who recently passed away from hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis.

With the loss, Loyola drops to 16-18 overall and 6-9 in the SSAC heading into tomorrow regular-season finale against Faulkner University.

The Wolf Pack capitalized on Roadrunner errors to take the early 5-2 lead in set one. The home team quickly rebounded and went on a 12-1 run to take the 20-12 advantage. Loyola scored three-straight to bering the score to 22-15, before Dalton State closed the set with an ace to take the 25-17 victory.

The Roadrunners kept the momentum rolling in the second set, jumping out to a quick 4-0 lead. The Wolf Pack battled back and with the score knotted at 13-13, Loyola strung together three-straight points to take the 16-13 advantage. Both teams exchanged the lead three more times and with the score tied at 21-21, the home team scored three-in-a-row to grab the 24-21 advantage. Two attack errors by Dalton State brought the score to 24-23 but the Roadrunners managed to hold on to take the 25-23 win in the set to go up 2-0 in the match.

Following a 1-1 tie in set three, Dalton State grabbed the lead and never looked en route to the 25-21 set victory and the 3-0 win for the match.

Sr. OH Eva Allen (Oakland, Calif./Head-Royce) led all players with 11 kills to go along with seven digs. Ulfig dished out a team-high 17 assists and five digs, while Jr. L/DS Katie Phillippi (Metairie, La./Haynes)chipped in eight digs in the loss.

Loyola caps of the 2015 regular season tomorrow, Nov. 6, at Faulkner University in a match set to start at 2:00 p.m.
