The Loyola University New Orleans Volleyball team had a tall order on Friday night, welcoming #13 College of Coastal Georgia to The Den for a SSAC showdown. In a match that saw the visiting team hold the lead from start to finish, the Wolf Pack fell to the Mariners 3-0 (25-12,25-14,25-20).

With the loss, Loyola falls to 12-11 overall and 4-5 in conference play. Conversely, Coastal Georgia improves to 18-2 on the year behind a perfect 9-0 mark in league action.

The visiting team came out on Friday night on a mission, taking the 1-0 lead and never looking back en route to the 25-12 victory in set one.

The second set saw the visitors jump out to a 6-0 advantage, before a kill by Sr. OH Eva Allen (Oakland, Calif./Head-Royce) and an ace by Fr. SMaddie Huekels (Dyer, Ind./Marian Catholic) brought the Wolf Pack within four at 6-2. The Mariners stayed in the driver seat for the remainder of the set, ending with a 9-1 run to claim the 25-14 win.

Loyola came into the third set with a renewed focus and battled Coastal Georgia to an early 4-4 tie. The Mariners then scored five-straight points to extend the lead to 9-4 before the Wolf Pack answered with a 4-0 run to cut the deficit to one at 9-8. An attack error by Coastal Georgia tied the score again at 13-13 but a 6-0 run would give the visitors the lead back at 19-13. Loyola managed to score four-straight points down the stretch but it wasn't enough and the Mariners took the victory in the set 25-20 and the win in the match 3-0.

Fr. MB Allison Hartmann (Slidell, La./Pope John Paul II) had a big game for the Wolf Pack, leading the team with seven kills and four huge blocks. Huekels dished out a team-high 21 helpers and scooped a game-high nine digs in the loss.

Loyola returns to The Den tomorrow, Oct. 10, to take on Brewton-Parker College on "Pink Day" at 11:00 a.m.
