(Hattiesburg, Miss.) Loyola University New Orleans women's basketball took down Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) competitor William Carey University 66-57 tonight in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The Wolf Pack is now 18-1 on the season and 9-1 in conference play.
Senior standout Janeicia Neely shot lights out for the Wolf Pack tonight, tallying 29 points - only one point shy of tying her career high set earlier this season. Neely went 13-of-21 from the field and drained a trio of three-pointers to lead the way for Loyola on offense. She also grabbed six rebounds in the victory over the Crusaders. For the second game in a row, sophomore forward Meghan Temple finished the night one rebound shy of her fifth double-double of the season, recording 15 points and nine rebounds. Temple was a dominant force in the paint for the Wolf Pack tonight and finished the game shooting 7-of-9 from the field. Senior Megan Whittaker and redshirt sophomore Briana Oglesby both tallied nine points apiece. Oglesby also grabbed five rebounds and dished out a team-high three assists on the night.
The Wolf Pack finished the game shooting 48% from the field as a team and 31% from beyond the arc. Loyola outrebounded William Carey 36 to 34 and also converted 15 points off of turnovers made by the Crusaders. William Carey ended the night shooting 37% from the field, and Loyola's persistent defensive presence forced the Crusaders to only convert one of their 14 attempts from beyond the arc.
Keoshya Wilson led the Crusaders (8-9, 5-6 SSAC) on offense, recording 20 points on 50% shooting, while Shandon Huddleston aided the scoring effort with 13 points. Tiffany Sims grabbed eight rebounds, while Ashton Scarborough tabbed four assists.
Loyola will return to action this Saturday, January 31 at 2 p.m. in The Den when they take on SSAC foe University of Mobile. The 2015 Wolf Pack Athletics Hall of Fame inductees will be honored at halftime of the men's game against Mobile. The Hall of Fame class will be inducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Danna Student Center, preceded by a reception at 5:45 p.m. Tickets are $30 per person, and the event is open to the public.
