Loyola volleyball concludes season with losses to top opponents in pool play of SSAC Championships

Loyola University New Orleans volleyball fell in three sets to number one seed College of Coastal Georgia this afternoon 16-25, 20-25, 14-25, before slipping to Dalton State College in four sets later in the day 22-25, 22-25, 25-20, 14-25 in pool play of the SSAC Championships.

(Montgomery, Ala.) Loyola University New Orleans volleyball fell in three sets to number one seed College of Coastal Georgia this afternoon 16-25, 20-25, 14-25, before slipping to Dalton State College in four sets later in the day 22-25, 22-25, 25-20, 14-25 in pool play of the SSAC Championships.

In the Wolf Pack's opening match, junior Eva Allen paced the offense against Coastal Georgia, tallying nine kills, while sophomore Wren Overesch and freshman Keyanna Gayden added six and five, respectively. Senior Becca Burnett headed the defensive effort against the Mariners with nine digs, while Allen and sophomore Daniela Leal contributed eight apiece. Leal also concluded the match with 27 assists.

Emma Anderson drove the Mariners on offense with 10 kills on a .368 hitting percentage, while Kara Neisen and Allie Shannon contributed eight kills apiece. SSAC Player of the Year Cayley Meiners aided the offensive effort with 38 assists, while Jennifer Johnson guided the Mariners on defense with 13 digs.

Concluding the day versus Dalton State, Allen controlled the offense with 10 kills, while contributing seven defensive digs. Senior Lauren Brand notched eight kills, while Gayden and senior Tiffany Walker added six apiece. Burnett led the Pack on defense with 26 digs, and Leal chipped in 14. Leal also tallied 28 assists against the Roadrunners.

Anna Metzler led the Roadrunners on offense with 13 kills, while Kianna Delaney added 11. Alyne Bianchi and Karly Newman powered the defense with 25 digs and 24 digs, respectively. Michala Askew topped the assist category with 40.

"We came into this tournament and accomplished something no one believed we could," said head coach Angela Franke. "I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to coach all of these young ladies, and I am looking forward to seeing what is in store for next season."

The Pack concluded the regular season 5-13 in SSAC play and went 12-19 overall under coach Franke. Allen and Brand were named to the Second Team All-Conference, while Walker was honored as Loyola's Champions of Character recipient.
