(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans volleyball battled from behind to defeat conference foe Belhaven University tonight in five exhilarating sets 21-25, 25-12, 25-17, 23-25, 15-13. Tonight's matchup was crucial for the Pack as they built a two match lead over the Blazers heading into their final two conference matches of the season. The top eight teams in the conference will head to Montgomery, Ala. for the SSAC Championships November 13-15. The Pack currently sit at No. 8 and the Blazers No. 9 in the conference standings, respectively.
Junior Eva Allen drove the Pack on offense with 21 kills, which ties her career high for a single match. Senior Lauren Brand and sophomore Wren Overesch also came up strong on offense, tallying 15 kills apiece. Sophomore setter Daniela Leal compiled 54 assists in the win, two shy of her career high. Leal headed the defensive effort with 25 digs, while senior Becca Burnett chimed in with 20. Freshman Keyanna Gayden added two blocks, and the Pack notched six total blocks.
Junior Taylor Hall led the Blazers (9-17, 2-14 SSAC) on offense with 14 kills, while fellow junior Jackie Rhyne finished the night with 22 digs. Freshman Kelly Aholt aided the offense with 20 assists, while fellow freshman Blaykleigh Smythe compiled three blocks. The Blazers ended the night with seven team blocks.
The Pack (11-16, 5-10 SSAC) return to action tomorrow, November 1 as they host conference opponent Faulkner University in The Den at 2 p.m.
