(Gainesville, Ga.) Loyola University New Orleans volleyball outlasted Truett-McConnell College yesterday, October 18 in a thrilling five-set battle 25-20, 22-25, 25-16, 23-25, 15-11. Earlier in the day, the Pack fell to conference opponent Brenau University in four sets 19-25, 16-25, 25-18, 18-25.
Senior Lauren Brand led the Pack's offensive effort against Truett-McConnell, tallying 16 kills in the win, while junior Eva Allen added 14. Sophomore Katie Philippi shined on defense, compiling 28 digs, while sophomore Daniela Leal finished the match with 23. Freshman Elizabeth "Joi" Scioneaux and senior Becca Burnett added 16 digs apiece. Leal compiled 36 assists in the win.
Freshman Tarryn Long led the Bears (7-19) on offense with 17 kills, while fellow freshman Hannah Simpson drove the defense with 22 digs. Sophomore setter Brianna Keierleber concluded the match with 21 assists.
Allen tallied 14 kills in the loss against Brenau, leading the Wolf Pack on offense. Three members of the Pack finished the match with double-digit digs. Philippi drove the defensive effort with 16 digs, while Leal and Brand notched 11 and 10, respectively. Leal also garnered 27 assists in the loss.
Senior Rachel Adam and fellow senior Sydney Koon led the Golden Tigers (11-9, 6-5 SSAC) on offense with 15 kills and 14 kills, respectively. Koon also headed the defense with 15 digs, while freshman Cayla Graham added 14. Sophomore Pamela Konken aided the offensive effort with 24 assists on the day.
The Pack (10-14, 4-9 SSAC) will resume action on Tuesday, October 21 as they face conference contender University of Mobile in Mobile, Ala.
