Loyola falls to two top 10 teams to conclude OBU tournament

Loyola University New Orleans volleyball fell in two matches against ranked teams on Saturday, August 24th at the Oklahoma Baptist Tournament this weekend.

(Shawnee, Okla.) Loyola University New Orleans volleyball fell in two matches against ranked teams on Saturday, August 24th at the Oklahoma Baptist Tournament this weekend. The Pack opened the day falling 3-1 to #8 Mid-America Nazarene University before a 3-0 defeat to #5 Oklahoma Baptist University completed their first tournament of the season.

In their first match of the second day of tournament play, the Wolf Pack fell short to 4-0 Mid-America Nazarene University 25-9, 25-22, 23-25, 25-15. Sophomore Eva Allen and freshman Wren Overesch combined for 24 kills. Junior Lauren Brand and senior Sabrina Stansberry added six and seven kills respectively. Freshman setter Daniela Leal chipped in with 33 assists.

The Wolf Pack took on tournament hosts Oklahoma Baptist University (3-1) in the tournament finale, but fell 25-15, 25-9, 25-15. Stansberry led the way in the second game as she tallied six kills. Kaylin Storey was big defensively as she posted 12 digs. Leal continued setting up teammates with 16 assists in the match. Kristin Pressley of Oklahoma Baptist led the way for the opposing team as she compiled eight kills and 15 digs.

Loyola (1-3) posted a 1-1 record on the first day of the tournament as they swept Texas College 3-0 before falling 3-1 to Wiley College in the nightcap.

The Wolf Pack (1-3) will travel to Houston, Texas next weekend for the University of St. Thomas Tournament. On Friday, August 30, Loyola will face Xavier University at 11 a.m. and Columbia College at 5 p.m. The Pack will conclude tournament action on Saturday, August 31 as they take on Montana Tech at 12 p.m. and tournament host University of St. Thomas at 6 p.m.
