Loyola volleyball edges Martin Methodist

The Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team outhustled a tenacious Martin Methodist squad to narrowly earn a three set victory 28-26, 25-21, 25-23 in The Den.

(New Orleans, La.) The Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team outhustled a tenacious Martin Methodist squad to narrowly earn a three set victory 28-26, 25-21, 25-23 in The Den.

Sophomore middle Kaitlin Mohr turned in a record performance, earning a career high 13 kills and four blocks. Mohr capitalized on crucial points throughout the contest, including the set winning point in the second and timely blocks to swing momentum in favor of the Pack (5-14, 3-5 SSAC). Junior Lauren Brand tallied nine kills while senior Katie Broadbent added eight. The Loyola defense held strong in the hands of junior Becca Burnett and sophomore Kaylin Storey. Burnett turned in 17 digs on the afternoon. Storey impressed with superb passing plays and eight digs.

Martin Methodist (2-13, 0-7 SSAC) attack leader freshman Gloria Watson stunned with her hard hitting, pacing the RedHawks with 10 kills. Senior Ya Zhao followed right behind with nine. Additionally, Watson led the passing team with 16 digs.

The Wolf Pack returns to action in The Den on Tuesday, Oct. 8 when they take on the University of Mobile at 7 p.m.
