Camal Petro enters his seventh year with the Loyola Athletics Department, serving as the Director of Athletic Communications until his Assistant Athletic Director promotion in September 2024. He earned the Southern States Athletic Conference Sports Information Director of the Year in June 2022 and NAIA Sports Information Director of the Year in September 2022.

His duties with the Wolf Pack include overseeing the communication efforts of all 22 athletic programs, creating and implementing social media strategies, creating graphics to highlight the department, keeping the athletics website up to date with daily news and game recaps, and managing game day staff for home volleyball, basketball and baseball games. In his new role as Assistant Athletic Director, Petro will be responsible for the department's licensing program, which includes contracts, billing, and seeking approval of artwork with the Office of Marketing and Communications. He'll also serve as the University's Champions of Character liaison, as well as oversee the Athletic Department's game day ticketing operations.

Along with his Loyola duties, Petro also serves on the Loyola Staff Senate, the NAIA-SIDA Executive Board and the board liaison for the Statistics, History, Records and Honors Committee.

After Hurricane Ida displaced the Wolf Pack volleyball team in fall 2021, his work publicizing Loyola’s determination and unwavering resilience garnered attention from ABC’s Good Morning America which produced a feature about the team. Petro’s work was also on display during the men’s basketball season as the Wolf Pack captured the red banner in Kansas City. His constant contact with media in a saturated sports market in New Orleans helped the team to break through with multiple stories and interviews, both inside and outside the market.

Petro joined the Wolf Pack staff in September 2019, spending nearly four years with Hattiesburg Publishing as sports editor for the PineBeltNEWS, Signature Magazine and PineBeltSPORTS. As the sports editor for every publication under the HubCitySPOKES umbrella, his responsibilities included designing pages, writing and editing copy, taking and editing photos and video, hosting podcasts, and much more.

Every year during his tenure, Petro's sports section earned recognition from the Mississippi Press Association for continued excellence. In 2016, he swept first, second and third place for Best Game Story, winning another writing award in 2017 for Best Sports Feature. In 2019, his sports section was chosen as for the MPA's Best Sports Section award, and the quarterly PineBeltSPORTS Magazine was awarded Best Overall Magazine.

While in Hattiesburg, Petro covered the area's eight high schools, as well as Southern Miss, an NCAA Division I university, and William Carey, a fellow member of the Southern States Athletic Conference in the NAIA.

Before he became sports editor in 2015, Petro spent time with the Jefferson City News Tribune, where he was a member of an eight-man sports writer team that covered central Missouri. He also interned with Rivals.com and WLOX-TV in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Petro graduated with a Bachelor's in Journalism in 2013 from Ole Miss, where he covered all sports for the school's student newspaper, the Daily Mississippian, for three years.
